    • Tunis — Ousted President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was sentenced to 20 years jail in absentia in the Ouardanine affair, reported on Wednesday authorised sources of the military justice.

      The Tunis Military Court returned its verdict at dawn Wednesday morning. Ben Ali was accused of "inciting people to use arms against each other, inducing disorder, killing and looting."

      The defendants on the run were sentenced to 10 years jail in absentia for "premeditated murder and attempted murder."

      The verdicts returned in the case of detained people ranged between 5 years jail and dismissal of case.

      The verdict also provides for the indemnification of the plaintiff in compensation for the moral and material damages suffered by civilians and police during the events of Ouardanine, as well as for the victims' heirs who should receive amounts ranging between 150 to 250 thousand dinars.
