Jorge Carlo Fonseca Declared Winner
-
Jorge Carlos Fonseca of the rival MFD party has been declared winner of the Island’s second round of voting, making him the fourth(4th) President of the Republic of Cape Verde.
Mr Fonseca secured 54.45% of the total votes cast as against Mr Sousa of the PAIVC who obtained 45% of the votes. Mr Fonseca will succeed President Pedro Pires who is constitutionally barred from contesting after serving two terms.

Meanwhile Mauel Inocencio Sousa has conceded defeat and has sent a congratulatory message to Fonseca. President elect Fonseca will have to govern with a Prime Minister for the PAIVC party, since they won a majority percentage in the February parliamentary polls.
