The Egyptian Parliament has unanimously passed a bill on Thursday that will prevent ex-officials from contending in any elections for 10 years and automatically bars them from participating in the upcoming two-day elections slated to start May 23.
Muslim Brotherhood has called for a "million-man" protest in Tahrir Square on Friday against the nomination of former members of Mubarak's regime, including Ex-spy chief Omar Suleiman and Ahmed Shafiq, the former prime minister who are vying for the presidency, they added that majority of Egyptians will not accept any symbols of Mubarak's regime and therefore candidacy of such officials is an insult to the revolution.
However, the bill lawmakers approved Thursday specifies that the former president, vice president, prime minister, vice prime minister and head of the now-dissolved National Democratic Party cannot run.
Next month's vote will be the nation's first presidential election since Mubarak's ouster in February 2011.
