    • The hosts of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea have seen their dreams dimed as they were defeated in their quarter final matches that took place within the week end.

On Saturday in Malabo, Ivory Coast proved their supremacy over the “Nzalang Nacional” of Equatorial Guinea 3-0.

Didier Drogba warned his counterparts in the 36th with the opener which blew a wind of panic amongst the Nzalangs.

This would have been the 2nd goal 6 minutes ago if Drogba had scored a penalty given to him after being fouled in the vital area by Konate Mamadou. Never the less, the Chelsea forward made a powerful header that landed the ball at the bottom of Danilo Emanuel’s net.

At 2-0, players of the national football team of Equatorial Guinea that the bone wasn’t an easy one to chew. They mounted pressures in search for two equalizing goals only for Barcelona’s Yaya Touré to dim their expectations by scoring a beautiful free-kick.

All attempts by Equatorial Guineans failed as the match ended on a humiliating and not surprising score of 3-0 in favor of Ivory Coast.

Reports say after the match, restaurants and local bars in Bata and Malabo became victims of desert as fans all decided to digest their elimination in beds.

On the other hand, Gabon did not miss the 1st and 2nd rounds’ tradition to follow the steps of Equatorial Guinea as they were beaten 5-6 after penalty shoot outs by the eagles of Mali.

From the 56th to the 84th the Panthers of Ghana were a step into the semis as they had taken the lead through Eric Mouloungui.

Barely 6 minutes to the end of the encounter, Mali’s Diabate put both teams at the same level with an equalizer. No other goal came till full time and prolongations too produced nothing.

During penalties, Gabon failed to score one, through Aubamayang but FC Barcelona’s striker Seydou Keita were more concrete as he netted the wining penalty and sent the Eagles of Mali into the last four of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
