Russia To Host 2018 World Cup...Qatar In 2022
-
In a tensed packed Zurich auditorium and thousands of eagerly awaiting football crazed fans all over the world, FIFA President Sepp Blatter on Thursday, December 2nd announced that Russia will host the 2018 World Cup....
The Eastern European country has never previously hosted the World Cup.
Sources say England was eliminated from the race to host the 2018 World Cup in the first round. England bid ambassador and BBC presenter Gary Lineker confirmed that England were knocked out in the first round of voting. They came fourth out of four.
Meanwhile, in what could be described as a shock since no one saw that coming, FIFA choose to take the 2022 World Cup to the Middle East,... and to Qatar.
A secret ballot of Fifa's 22 executive members in the Swiss city of Zurich on Thursday decided the winners.
England, Spain/Portugal, Russia and Belgium/Netherlands competed for the right to be the 2018 hosts, whilst Australia, the United States, South Korea, Japan and Qatar were hoping to land the 2022 tournament.
After the 2022 bidders made their final pitches on Wednesday, it was the turn of the 2018 contenders on Thursday.
