Does beauty really lie in the eyes of the beholder?

What actually is the definition of beauty? The Oxford dictionary defines beauty as follows: "the quality of being pleasing to the senses or to the mind." But what does this mean. What might be pleasing to one person may not be so to another. How is beauty determined and who sets the scale of what is beautiful and what is not. As we human beings are all individual we do see beauty different from each other. Beauty might not only be associated with people but also with things, colours and other things. I doubt that there will ever be a mutual understanding of the word beauty but maybe you could give some examples of what you find beautiful in this world. It would be nice to encourage an exchange of opinions on this site.
